This Week's Read: The Sculptor

A lot has already been said about Scott McCloud's The Sculptor. There's not much I can add to the plethora of reviews, except to say that I read it four days ago, and am still recovering. Beautiful, melancholic, and mesmerizing, it perfectly captures the struggle between an artist and his art. The main character, David, makes a deal with Death: he gains the ability to sculpt anything he wants --with his bare hands-- out of any material he chooses. As payment, he will die in 200 days.

It's a hefty read (my favorite kind!). McCloud created something incredible with this graphic novel, and I recommend it to anyone who has ever wondered how they'd spend their time if they knew the date of their demise.
